UniSC Moreton Bay Stage 2

UniSC Moreton Bay Stage 2

The University of the Sunshine Coast’s new campus at Petrie, Queensland reflects the significant growth and expansion of UniSC beyond its founding Sippy Downs campus.

Cottee Parker’s role on this project centres on the design finalisation, construction and delivery of the three Mass Engineered Timber (MET) framed buildings designed by UniSC Project Architect KIRK.

In late 2021, Cottee Parker was engaged with BADGE Constructions and their consultant team by UniSC to deliver the project under a Design and Construct procurement. The precursor to this was an extensive pre-contract value management exercise with UniSC to achieve the required university-approved project budget whilst maintaining the design principles and integrity of the approved scheme.

The project was redocumented from first principles by Cottee Parker to LOD400 Building Information Model (BIM) detail. As lead consultants, our role entailed BIM management, clash detection and coordination. The development of these detailed models enabled Cottee Parker to finalise the design of the three buildings with UniSC and their internal stakeholders. A series of consultative workshops were held with BADGE and UniSC to capture the review and enable the design approval signoff.

The buildings required re-engagement with the Fire Engineering Brief and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services. MET methodology requires early and highly resolved review and approval of the Glue Laminated and Cross Laminated structural elements, which was managed through the BIM coordination and review process by Cottee Parker.

Building A4 includes specialist Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) teaching and research laboratories. Cottee Parker worked with UniSC and BADGE to finalise the design and compliance of these spaces, which included the Laboratory Hazard Area Assessment and the PC2 compliance and certification process.

During construction, our role involved shop drawing review, site and quality inspections and review and approval of site prototypes with BADGE and their subcontractors. The early precision of the MET frame had a direct influence on the subsequent trades, with their detailing and construction methodology having corresponding precision.

Cottee Parker worked with UniSC and BADGE to design, document and construct the external works and landscape precinct design for Stage 2 alongside Dunn + Moran Landscape Architects. Allied to this design phase were also the Signage and Wayfinding work with Dot Dash and the UniSC public artwork project with Urban Art Projects.
