Tweed Heads South Public School

Tweed Heads South Public School

Through a carefully staged program of refurbishment, adaptive re-use and new facilities, Tweed Heads Public School strengthens its learning environment while respecting the character and history of the existing campus.

Respecting What Exists

As part of School Infrastructure NSW’s $8.8 billion investment in educational facilities, Tweed Heads Public School underwent a significant renewal that balances contemporary learning environments with the retention of valued existing buildings. The design approach draws on contextual references across the campus while embracing a contemporary architectural language that supports future-focused education.

Designed by SJB and delivered by Cottee Parker as Delivery and Documentation Architect for Bennett Constructions, the project combines refurbishment, consolidation and new-build works into a cohesive campus-wide transformation. Extensive consultation with the school community during the early design phase helps shape a response that reflects the aspirations of students, staff and families.

Delivering Without Disruption

Maintaining the daily operation of a functioning primary school remains central to the delivery strategy. Construction progresses through carefully managed stages, allowing teaching and learning to continue while works are undertaken across the campus.

Early works include upgrades to the school’s main entry and refurbishment of the canteen, improving arrival experiences and enhancing everyday student amenity. Subsequent stages extend and refurbish the Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) facility and Early Learning Centre, supporting a broader range of learning and care opportunities for the school community.

Creating Future Learning Environments

The final stage delivers a series of significant new education facilities that strengthen the campus for future generations. These include a refurbished administration building, a new two-storey general learning classroom block, a contemporary library and a dedicated Kindergarten to Year 2 learning building.

Together, the new and renewed facilities create a connected learning environment that supports a variety of teaching styles, encourages collaboration and provides flexible spaces for students at every stage of their educational journey. Through the careful integration of existing and new elements, the project enhances the identity of Tweed Heads Public School while creating a campus designed to serve its community for years to come.
